Sabatino's
Lido Isle, Newport Beach
Champagne Brunch, May 2011
[ $24.95 ] A steal of a brunch, with overflowing champagne.
Eggs Italiano
"Fresh homemade sausage sautéed with bell peppers, onions, olives, capers and blended with scrambled
eggs and special spices."
So, apparently Lido Isle knows Sabatino's for its Italian sausage. I grew up in Newport Beach and for some reason I've never been here though I've seen it off to the side with its Italian, picnic style table cloths and fairy light-lit patio area. Boy, have I missed out. If I had known this place existed for brunch, I would have began coming here with groups of friends for brunch a long time ago.
The brunch menu, Saturday and Sunday, is a steal. For $24.95, you get a bottle of champagne per person, a breakfast entree of eggs, omelets, french toast, sausage sandwiches... the menu is double sided, just to give you an idea of how long the list can go on. There is also a buffet area inside where you can pick up some pickled items like bruschetta spread, pane, fruit, and some sausage. And of course, there are espressos and cappuccinos.
I find it funny that this is an Italian restaurant and yet the menu items are not all in Italian, or they are only half so. Eggs Italiano, for example, is really Le uova italiane. Why don't they just say Italian Eggs? Hahah. No worries though, you'll care less about how things are spelled on the menu than about enjoying your company's conversation and a good meal.
On a separate occasion in March 2011 - for lunch - I had the Steamed Mussels in a white wine sauce with tomatoes. The recipe is basic, simple, but good. There was garlic also, which gave this a kick, though the flavor was still mild, overall. On the lunch date, we ate outside. It was a lovely day out. The experience was casual and comfortable. The service was friendly and the meal was, again, affordable. The total meal, for two, without wine, was around $30. Our entrees were approximately $13 each.
Cheers
An all-you-can-eat, affordable brunch...
with chilled bubbly!
