Gypsy Den
The Lab, Costa Mesa
Great place to just chill and catch up with friends over a rich cappuccino or healthy, hipster tabbouleh. I used to come here all the time for a late night tea; at one time, I believe the Den even hosted free-lance music groups eager to perform for a small and attentive audience in the late hours. The Gypsy Den is chill. When you're here you feel relaxed and you leave satisfied. The food is flavorful and rich. You may share quite a few items - they're pretty big. The entrees and appetizers are affordable as well. I often came here just for the tea and pastries, but when here for lunch I opted for the combo of a soup and salad (such as the tabbouleh, below).
Gypsy Rice
Essentially, the Den's version of tabbouleh. So good! You only really need a half order for one person, or you can split the full order with someone. There are cashews, raisins, scallions, brown rice, parsley, and some diced red tomatoes on a bed of greens, with an enriched olive oil/aged balsamic sauce on the side - and it has an acidic kick! I delighted in this sauce and it served as an excellent topper to the rice dish. I wish I could have purchased a bottle to take home.
Cheers.

Cheers.
